Volleyball Sweeps Trinity, 3-0

FREDERICK, Md.--Junior Lindsey Nagy registered a team-high 15 kills and tallied nine digs to lead the Hood College volleyball team to an important Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference match over Trinity University, 3-0 (30-20, 30-28, 30-13), Wednesday evening at Gambrill Gymnasium.

The Blazers improve to 3-11 overall, 2-4 in the AWCC, and remain in fourth place in the conference standings while the Tigers remain winless on the season at 0-14 overall, 0-4 in the league.

Hood used outstanding serving to maintain the upperhand in game one. The Blazers aced the Tigers 10 times in the first stanza and went on to take the set 30-21.

In game two, the Blazers were forced to play catch-up for the majority of the set, trailing by as many as nine points (19-10) before mounting a tremendous comeback. Trailing 26-19, the Blazers inched their way back into it, taking advantage of several Tiger miscues. The Blazers used four kills by Nagy to turn a 27-25 deficit into a 29-27 edge which gave the Blazers their first game-point of the set. After a Hood hitting error gave the side out to Trinity, the Tigers served the next ball into the net to lock up the game for Hood, 30-28.

The Blazers cruised in game three, racing out to a 17-2 lead and went on to close out the match in decisive fashion, 30-13.

Freshman Ashley Burns totaled six kills and five service aces while senior Starr McDavid also served up five aces and added 10 digs. Junior Jamie Bussey led the defense with 15 digs.

The Blazers return to action Saturday when they travel to Washington, D.C., for a tri-match with Trinity and Salem. The rematch between the Tigers and Blazers gets underway at 11 a.m.
