Volleyball Splits Tri-Match with Shenandoah, Chestnut Hill

FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday afternoon, falling to Shenandoah University 3-0 (25-30, 18-30, 26-30) before rebounding in the second match to defeat Chestnut Hill College 3-0 (30-17, 30-28, 30-15). The Blazers improve to 2-10 overall on the season.

The first match with Shenandoah was a back-and-forth affair which saw several ties and numerous lead changes. Senior Lindsay Nagy led Hood with eight kills, 13 digs and a .381 hitting percentage, while Jamie Gardner and Hilary Cook tallied five kills apiece. Jamie Bussey registered 10 digs and Caroline Woodhams set up 15 kills and tallied three digs.

In the second match with Chestnut Hill, the Blazers took the first game with relative ease, but found themselves in a 28-21 hole in the second set. Hood rallied to score the next nine points of the game and closed it out on a kill by Starr McDavid. The Blazers completed the sweep by taking the final set 30-15 to end an eight-match losing streak.

Ashley Bryan notched six kills and a pair of blocks against the Griffins, while Leah Garland collected nine assists and six digs. Ashley Burns served up three aces and totaled three digs for the victors.

Hood returns to action Thursday hosting Goucher College at 7 p.m. at Gambrill Gymnasium.
