Volleyball Drops Four at Maryland State Tournament
ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.--The Hood College volleyball team dropped all four of its matches at the Maryland Division III State Tournament Friday and Saturday at St. Mary's College of Maryland.
The Blazers (1-6) opened the tournament with 3-0 losses to Salisbury (30-8, 30-12, 30-19) and Washington (30-28, 30-23, 30-18) Friday night.
Starr McDavid, Lindsey Nagy and Hilary Cook had three kills apiece, while Jamie Bussey had a team-high 11 digs against Salisbury. Nagy and Ashley Bryan recorded four kills each and Bussey had 13 digs versus Washington.
On Saturday, Hood dropped a hard-fought 3-2 match to Villa Julie and closed out the tournament with a 3-0 defeat to Notre Dame.
The Blazers opened their match against Villa Julie with a 32-30 victory but dropped the next two games by 30-16 and 30-24 scores. Hood evened the match with a 30-16 win in the fourth game, but Villa Julie claimed a 15-11 victory in game five to take the match.
Nagy had nine kills and nine digs, while Bryan had seven kills and four digs. Bussey led a strong defensive effort with 24 kills. Starr McDavid added 20 digs. Caroline Woodhams recorded 30 assists, five service aces, three digs and three kills.
Hood closed out the tournament with a tough 30-21, 30-26, 30-27 loss to Notre Dame. Bryan led the Blazers with 12 kills, while Woodhams had 16 assists. Bussey added 10 digs.
Hood returns to action Saturday in an Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference tri-match at Mary Baldwin College. The Blazers face the host Fighting Squirrels at 11 a.m. and take on Chatham College at 1 p.m.
