WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Hood College senior Sophie Grizzle (Brunswick, Md. / Brunswick) is in fourth place after the first day of the heptathlon at the West Chester University Invitational.
She is also the top Division III student-athlete in the standings and is 48 points ahead of the school record pace.
Grizzle tallied 2,143 points through four events. Millersville's Arianna Camel leads the pack with 2,531. West Chester's Danielle Kuhn and Sarah Garner have also topped 2,400 points and sit in second and third place, respectively.
Grizzle cleared 4-11 in the high jump to tie for second in the event and scored 621 points, her highest in any event so far. She was third in both the 200-meter (28.30; 607 points) and shot put (7.47 meters; 365), as well. The senior opened the multi-event with a 17.42 in the 100 hurdles, which scored 550 points.
The heptathlon wraps up on Saturday, April 12, with the rest of the Blazers joining Grizzle for the rest of the West Chester Invitational.
