ANNVILLE, Pa. - Hood College's Heather Silveira (Baltimore, Md. / Chesapeake) was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week after setting a pair of school records at the Crusader Classic.
The junior set a Blazer record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.72 in the finals, where she finished fourth overall. Silveira helped Hood finish the meet on a high note as part of the winning 4x400 relay, which demolished the previous school record. The foursome, which also included Alexandra Dystant (Odenton, Md. / Arundel), Sophie Grizzle (Brunswick, Md. / Brunswick), and Chelsea Young (Walkersville, Md. / Walkersville) combined to run a 4:12.10 to defeat the runners up from Division II Bloomsburg by 0.19 seconds. Even more impressively, they cut over 11 seconds off of the existing school record in the event.
Silveira is the second Blazer to win the weekly award from the conference during the indoor season. Young won the initial honor on December 19.
Hood travels to Dickinson College on February 15 for the DuCharme Invitational.
