Ayer Adds Middletown Hurdle Specialist Kathryn Papuchis to Women's Track Roster

FREDERICK, Md.--Hood College head men's and women's cross country and track and field coach Brent Ayer announced the addition of hurdle star Kathryn Papuchis of Middletown High School to his 2011 women's track and field roster.

Born in Hagerstown and current resident of Myersville, Md., Papuchis was the 2A west regional outdoor champion in both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles as a junior to advance to the state meet. At states, Papuchis placed fifth in the 100 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles, helping the Knights capture the team crown. A two-time Piedmont Conference champion during the indoor season, she also claimed back-to-back 2A west regional titles in the 55-meter hurdles as a junior and senior. A frequent selection on the all-conference and all-area squads, Papuchis' best times include 15.56 in the 100-meter hurdles, 46.9 in the 300-meter hurdles and 9.0 in the 55-meter hurdles.

A four-year honor roll selection at Middletown, Papuchis is transferring to Hood this fall from Gettysburg College.

"Kathryn has the ability to significantly alter several of our women’s school records," said Ayer. "We are excited to have her join us. She adds speed, depth and experience to our very young team. She could be a real force in the conference."
