Maryland Shot Put Champ Meghan Rose Headed to Hood

FREDERICK, Md.--Hood College men's and women's cross country and track and field coach Brent Ayer has announced that standout thrower Meghan Rose from Eastern Technical High School in Baltimore will join the Blazer women's track and field family for the 2010-11 season.

Rose claimed the 2010 Maryland state title in the shot put with a toss of 38' 8" and finished as the state runner-up in the discus with a mark of 105' 11". A two-time regional and county champion in the shot put, Rose went from being Eastern Tech's most improved track athlete in 2009 to the team's most valuable player in 2010 for both the indoor and outdoor seasons.

Rose holds school records in both the shot (38' 8") and discus (106' 9") and was named to the Baltimore County all-star team (indoor and outdoor) as well as the county's outdoor field athlete of the year this past spring.

Also an excellent student, Rose was the recipient of the Golden "E" Award as well as the Technology Achievement Guarantee Award. She earned honor roll distinction throughout her high school career and is a member of the national honor society.

"We are really excited to have Meghan join us," said Ayer. "Her current marks just scratch the surface of her potential. She has only been throwing a little over 16 months. She is a solid athlete, a solid student and will be a great addition to our growing program."
