SALISBURY, Md.--Senior Jessica Parrish won three events Saturday for the Hood College women's track and field team at the Blazers' first outdoor meet of the spring at Salisbury University.
Parrish paced the field in the long jump in a new school record leap of 17' 4.75". She also took first in the triple jump (10.52 meters). Parrish then anchored the 4x100 relay team to a new school record clocking of 51.19. Emma Arneson, Megan Cahill and Jessica Talley joined Parrish on that squad.
Megan Cahill eclipsed the school record in the pole vault to place second while Talley took runner-up honors in the 100 meters and placed fourth in the 200.
Erica Hamor and Arneson finished third in the javelin and 100 hurdles, respectively. Cahill also came in fourth in the 400 hurdles.
Nalla Tejera rewrote the record books in two events. She finished fourth in the shot put with a school-record toss of 34' 6.75" and launched the discus 90' 6" for another record-setting mark.
Mollie Widdowson ran fifth in the 100 hurdles, Chandra Banks
came in fifth in the javelin, and Samantha Nieves took fifth in the
triple jump. Arneson high jumped her way to a sixth-place finish
while Chloe Ey placed sixth in the long jump and Joanna LaBoue was
sixth in the steeple.
"I thought Jess Parrish did it all last year," said head coach
Brent Ayer. "This year she opens up with two new school records in
her first meet while running with a head cold. When I looked up
later in the meet, she was pulling tape to help officiate the shot
put.
"I was very pleased to see multiple placings in the hurdles, the
javelin, the long jump and the triple jump," Ayer continued. "Along
with Jessica Parrish; Megan Cahill, Jessica Talley, and Emma
Arneson scored in three events each.
"Nalla didn’t have her best day, but she is strong enough to
re-write her records and these will get substantially better. I
look for the team team to get better and better as the season
progresses," notes Ayer.
Hood next travels to York College (Pa.) for another outdoor meet Saturday.
