SELINSGROVE, Pa.--The Hood College track and field team competed in the Jim Taylor Invitational at Susquehanna University Saturday. The event featured 25 colleges and universities, including a half-dozen Division II programs.

Lauren Smith set a new indoor record in the 3000 meters with a time of 12:01.69, finishing just 0.59 seconds behind the outdoor standard. Smith also ran a record time of 2:42.48 in the 800 meters, the first time she has run the event this season.

April Penn finished the mile in 7:12.39 and also competed in the 800 finishing with a time of 3:13.35.

Hood travels to Dickinson College Saturday for the DuCharme Invitational which begins at 10 a.m.
