Blazer Track & Field Teams Compete at Frank Colden Invite


COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.--The Hood College men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Frank Colden Invitational at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa., Saturday.

Freshman Justin Everett, who still has had no practice outdoors due to the weather, improved over seven inches in the men’s long jump to finish eighth at 19’1/4”, setting a new indoor standard.

Tomilayo Komolafe set a new indoor standard in the 55-meter dash of 7.20. Mike Cahill and David McDuffie also competed in the 55-meter dash with identical times of 7.36.

Komolafe ran the 400-meter dash in 54.75 seconds, making it his personal best by 0.7 seconds over his best outdoor time, and marking a new indoor standard.

Cahill ran the 200-meter dash in 25.00 and William Andrews (2:12.91), Ola Komolafe (2:15.81) and Mattia Mabellini (2:24.57) all competed in the 800-meter dash. Blair Ames and Mabellini clocked in at 2:54.73 and 3:11.09, respectively, in the men’s 1000 meter dash.

David McDuffie, Tomilayo Komolafe, Ryan Jenkins and Cahill comprised the men’s 4x200 meter relay setting a new indoor standard of 1:40.73. And Tomilayo Komolafe, Cahill, Jenkins and Ola Komolafe ran the men’s 4x400 meter relay in 3:42.95.

In the women’s events, Katie Thomas also set a new indoor standard in the 55-meter dash with a time of 8.21. Thomas’ quicker reaction time cut about a half-second from her score last week. She competed in the 55-meter hurdles (9.94 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (29.21), setting new indoor standards in both. Thomas also competed in the 400 meter dash (1:11.44).

Amanda Kwiatkowski ran the women’s 55-meter hurdles in 11.35 and the 200 meter dash in 34.18.

Lauren Smith and Danielle Sgro finished the mile in 5:55.83 and 6:0.83, respectively. Smith’s time set new school records for both indoor and outdoor in the seldom-contested event.

The Blazers’ next competition is slated for Feb. 16 at Susquehanna University.
