Track Club Participates in McDaniel Twilight Meet
WESMINSTER, Md.--The Hood College track club joined eight other colleges, mostly with partial squads, at the McDaniel College Twilight Invitational held Wednesday afternoon.
Hood was lead by sophomore Faraz Shoai, who won the mile run, and freshman Katie Thomas, who scored and broke her existing records in both hurdles races.
Also scoring for Hood were Steve Delaney, who finished third in the 800, and Tomi Komaife, who finished fourth in his first attempt at the 400-meter hurdles. Freshman Ade Adeoyi added a fourth-place finish in the mile.
Shoai assumed control of the small, tactical race and pulled away with 500 meters to go. Delaney surged from the back of the pack, running his final 400 meters in 1:03 to finish in 2:09.95.
Thomas, a freshman who did not run track in high school, ran 1:14.69 to finish third in the 400-meter hurdles and 18.42 in finishing fourth in the 100-meter hurdles.
Also participating for Hood were Rachel Pectol, who tied for sixth and narrowly missed scoring in the 400, and Brandon Garton who finished 10th in the 100.
"It was a beautiful afternoon to run," head coach Brent Ayer said. "We used the meet as speed-sharpening for the Capital Athletic Conference Championship meet this Saturday. Steve, Tomi, Faraz and Katie are rolling right along."
Because of the unusual afternoon start, most schools sent partial squads. The Blazers, with seven athletes participating, were no exception. McDaniel carried both the men's and the women's team scoring. The Hood men finished fourth and the Hood women were seventh among team scorers.
