Emily Maerz Selected as CAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week

FREDERICK, Md.--Freshman Emily Maerz of the Hood College women's tennis team has been chosen as the Capital Athletic Conference athlete of the week for the week ending April 18.

A steady performer throughout the spring season, Maerz was undefeated at second singles and doubles last week and helped the Blazer women run their win streak to seven in a row.

The native of Myersville, Md., and product of Middletown High School surrendered just three games combined in three singles wins over her opponents from Shenandoah University, Trinity University (D.C.) and CAC foe Wesley College. Her 6-1, 6-1 triumph over WC's Kori Iksen helped clinch Hood's first CAC tournament win Saturday.

She also teamed up with doubles partner and senior Danielle Hunt to go 24-2 at the No. 2 spot. The duo finished with an 8-3 record on the year, including a 4-2 mark against league rivals.

Maerz boasted a record of 9-3 in singles action, all at second singles, and defeated four of her six CAC foes.

The Blazer women ended the season with an overall record of 8-10 and earned the No. 4 seed in the conference playoffs with a 3-3 mark.
