FREDERICK, Md.--Despite only sporting a five-player lineup, the Hood College women's tennis team (2-9) made the most of their efforts and eked out a 5-4 nonconference victory over visiting McDaniel College (2-8) Tuesday afternoon at Baker Park.
After starting the match with a victory at first doubles by Jillian Elkaim and Kameran Evans, Hood won its second match of the year by sweeping four of the six singles matches in eight-game pro sets.
Elkaim rolled over Janie Latham, 8-0, at the No. 1 spot while Emily Maerz cruised to an 8-2 win versus Brittany Starlings at second singles. Laura Saad and Dani Hunt also registered victories at third and fourth singles, respectively.
Hood travels to St. Mary's City, Md., Wednesday for a 3 p.m. Capital Athletic Conference match with the St. Mary's College (Md.) Seahawks. SMCM (9-5, 1-2 CAC) is tied for fourth in the CAC while the Blazers are in search of their first league win of the season.
