FREDERICK, Md.--Junior Jillian Elkaim of the Hood College women's tennis team was one of six players named to the Capital Athletic Conference all-league first team for singles play, as announced by conference officials Wednesday.
Elkaim becomes the first Hood women's tennis player to garner such a citation from the CAC. The native of Boyds, Md., joined four players from the University of Mary Washington and one from Salisbury University on the first team.
Hood's primary No. 1 singles player, she finished the season with an overall record of 15-3, including a 4-1 mark against CAC opponents. In her four CAC wins, she surrendered just seven games in eight sets. Her only setback in league play came against two-time first team selection Courtney Goimarac of UMW.
Elkaim also broke Hood's single-season record for singles victories, eclipsing the previous mark of 13 set by Gina Long during the 2000-01 season.
Hood finished the season with a record of 10-10, 3-3 in the CAC. The Blazers lost to the St. Mary's College (Md.) Seahawks in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.
