FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's tennis team (9-9) snapped a two-match losing skid with a lop-sided 9-0 nonconference victory over Penn State-Abington (2-2) Wednesday afternoon at the Baker Park Tennis Courts.
Freshman Jillian Elkaim tied the program record for singles wins with her 13th victory at the No. 1 spot, knocking off Mariane Wilusz, 6-3, 6-2. Elkaim's 13 victories equal Gina Long's effort (13-3) from the 2000-01 campaign.
Christine Ocampos-Barry, Laura Saad, Emily Schrodel, Larisa Buriak and Dani Hunt also earned straight set singles victories for the Blazers. Schrodel and Buriak did not surrender a single game to their Nittany Lion rivals at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.
Hood also swept all three doubles contests en route to evening their overall record at 9-9 on the season.
Hood's final regular season home match is slated for Tuesday against St. Mary's College (Md.) at 3:30 p.m. Hood will honor seniors Larisa Buriak, Caitlin Erickson and Christine Ocampos-Barry before the match.
