Women's Tennis Completes Undefeated AWCC Regular Season
FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's tennis team shutout the visiting Trinity University (D.C.) Tigers, 9-0, in their regular season finale Thursday.
The Blazers improve to 8-10 overall and boast an unblemished 4-0 record in Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference action.
The second and third doubles tandems had little trouble with their opponents, as Larisa Buriak and Dani Hunt recorded an 8-0 win at No. 2 and Caitlin Erickson and Stephanie Garrett cruised 8-1 at the No. 3 spot. The first doubles duo of Christine Ocampos-Barry and Laura Wanner held off Anastasiya and Evgenia Martynova 8-6 to complete the doubles sweep for Hood.
In singles action, five of the six matches were decided in straight sets. Ocampos-Barry, the reigning AWCC Player of the Week, outlasted A. Martynova 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 11-9 to secure her third singles victory in a row.
Hood finished its conference season with a sparkling 22-2 record in singles play and an 11-1 mark in doubles action.
The Blazers will be the top seed in the 2007 AWCC Tournament hosted by the College of Notre Dame April 28-29 in Baltimore.
