FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood women's tennis team closed out its regular season by blanking Division II Cheyney University by identical 9-0 scores in a rare doubleheader Wednesday afternoon.

In the first match, the Blazers (6-4) won six flights by 8-0 scores, another by an 8-1 margin and two by default.

Freshmen Christine Ocampos-Barry and Larisa Buriak got Hood rolling with an 8-0 shutout of Donielle Kelly and Zakiya Newton at No. 1 doubles, and sophomores Laura Wanner and Amellis Peart followed with an 8-1 victory against Sarah White and Jennifer Turnage at No. 2. Sophomores Stephanie Cowen and Christina Rosa won by default at No. 3.

Hood then won five singles matches by 8-0 shutouts.

Ocampos-Barry blanked Turnage at No. 1, Buriak downed Kelly at No. 2 and Rosa beat Newton at No. 3.

Freshman Caitlin Erickson shut out White at the fourth flight, and sophomore Rukondo Kambarewi swept Sherri Kyle at the fifth spot. Wanner was a winner by default at the sixth position.

Hood continued to dominate in the second match, winning seven matches by 8-0 scores and claiming the other two by default.

Ocampos-Barry and Erickson teamed up to blank Turnage and Kelly at No. 1 doubles, and Cowen and sophomore Carla Means shut out Kyle and White at No. 2. Garrett and Rosa won by default at No. 3.

In singles play, Buriak downed Turnage at the top spot, Wanner defeated Kelly at the second position and Cowen blanked Newton at the third flight.

Means swept White at No. 4, Peart shut out Kyle at No. 5 and Garrett won by default at No. 6.

Hood returns to action May 6-7 when it hosts the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference Championship. The Blazers have dominated the event, winning the last six titles.
