BALTIMORE--The Hood women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to host College of Notre Dame of Maryland in an Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference match Wednesday.

The Blazers (3-4, 1-1 AWCC) received singles wins from Stephanie Garrett and Stephanie Cowen, while Larisa Buriak and Christine Ocampos-Barry won in doubles play.

The Gators (5-2, 1-0) won two of three doubles matches and pulled away with victories in singles play.

Hood's Stephanie Garrett and Laura Wanner were blanked 8-0 at No. 1 doubles by Katie Gwiazdowski and sophomore Meryl Krich.

The Blazers picked up a point at No. 2 doubles as Buriak and Ocampos-Barry pulled out an 8-6 victory over Monica Cherry and Roxana Beyranvand.

Nicole DeMambro and Cowen then fell to Marie Claire Santiago and Allison Najewicz by an 8-3 margin at No. 3.

In singles play, Hood earned points at No. 2 No. 6 flights as Garrett got past Krich 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 and Cowan beat Alli Phillips 6-0, 7-6 (7-2).

Ocampos-Barry dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Gwiazdowski at No. 1 and Buriak lost to Cherry 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3.

Wanner picked up a first-set win but eventually fell to Beyranvand 6-4, 2-6, 1-6 at the fourth flight and Casey Bunchman was swept 6-1, 6-0 by Santiago at the flight spot.

Hood returns to action Friday, April 7 when it hosts the University of the District of Columbia at 3 p.m.
