FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood women's tennis team opened Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference play with an easy 9-0 win over visiting Wilson Wednesday afternoon.

The Blazers (3-3, 1-0 AWCC) set the tone early with convincing victories in doubles action.

Stephanie Garrett and Laura Wanner were 8-0 winners at No. 1, Christine Ocampos-Barry and Larisa Buriak posted an 8-1 victory at No. 2 and Stephanie Cowen teamed with Nicole DeMambro for an 8-0 shutout at No. 3.

Hood then swept all six singles matches, including five in straight sets.

Ocampos-Barry, Buriak and Casey Bunchman were 6-0, 6-0 winners, while Wanner and Caitlin Erickson dropped just one game each.

Cowen rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 to complete the shutout.

The Blazers are back in action Tuesday as they host Lincoln at 3 p.m.
