Women's Swimmers Fall to St. Mary's, 127-73

FREDERICK, Md.--Senior Amy Kaufman of the Hood College women's swim team (3-4, 1-4 CAC) was a double winner and Kim Wolfgang and Katie Hitchens also won individual events in a 127-73 Capital Athletic Conference loss to St. Mary's College (Md.) Saturday.
Kaufman captured both the 1000 free (11:14.86) and the 500 free (5:32.89). Wolfgang won the 100 back (1:06.65) and Hitchens bested the field in the 50 free (25.83). Wolfgang was also third in the 200 free (2:15.46) and third in the 100 breast (1:20.27) while Hitchens finished second in the 100 free (58.52).
Melissa Masino was fourth in the 1000 free (14:07.25) and fifth in the 100 fly (1:20.19). Meaghan Verleysen was fifth in the 50 free (30.75) and fourth in the 100 back (1:18.69). Erica Hamor placed third in the 200 IM (2:28.07) and fifth in the 500 free (5:51.41). Katie Reichard finished fifth in the 200 IM (3:05.62) and the 100 free (1:17.12). Ashley Garyn took fourth in the 100 fly (1:13.29).
The 400 free relay of Kaufman, Hamor, Garyn and Hitchens touched out the St. Mary's squad by .25 of a second for first place.
The Blazers return to the pool Sunday at Penn State-Altoona for a 1 p.m. nonconference meet.
