Women's Swimming Takes Second at Randolph-Macon Invitational

ASHLAND, Va.--The Hood College women's swim team finished second in the two-day seven-team Randolph-Macon Invitational in Ashland, Va.
The 200 medley relay team of Lenore Brown, Katie Hitchens, Amy Kaufman and Kim Wolfgang touched out the Randolph-Macon squad by 0.38 seconds to take top honors in 2:03.12.
Individually, Kaufman took third in the 400 IM (5:10.41) and second in the 500 free (5:38.01). Wolfgang placed fourth in the 400 IM (5:16.52), third in the 100 back (1:07.09) and second in the 200 back (2:25.38). Hitchens came in second in the 50 free by 0.04 seconds (26.61), finished fourth in the 200 free (2:15.41) and was fifth in the 100 free (1:00.36). Brown came in sixth in the 100 breast (1:19.61), ninth in the 500 free (5:56.16) and fifth in the 200 breast (2:50.74).
Erica Hamor was fifth in the 400 IM (5:24.50) and the 200 IM (2:33.99) and placed sixth in the 200 breast (2:54.29). Leah Chomlek was seventh in the 50 free (29.04) and 10th in both the 100 (1:25.87) and the 200 (3:09.88) breaststrokes.
Meaghan Verleysen placed 11th in the 50 free (30.50), sixth in the 100 back (1:17.60), fourth in the 200 back (2:47.37). Ashley Garyn came in seventh in three events including the 100 fly (1:12.40), the 200 IM (2:40.49) and the 100 free (1:02.91).
Kristen Kucharski was eighth in the 100 fly (1:15.26), fifth in the 200 back (2:53.45) and 10th in the 200 fly (2:58.16). Melissa Masino placed 11th in the 200 free (2:35.51) and 18th in the 500 free (7:00.46). Katie Reichard took ninth in the 100 back (1:21.99), sixth in the 200 back (2:56.76) and 15th in the 100 free (1:17.42).
Randolph Macon won the invitational with 692 points while Hood tallied 413 for second place, outdistancing Bridgewater (273), Randolph (250), Notre Dame (186), Hollins (171) and VMI (29).
Hood's next dual meet is slated for Jan. 5, 2008 at Capital Athletic Conference rival Salisbury University.
