Swimmers Compete at Chatham Invitational
PITTSBURGH, Pa.--The Hood College women's swim team defeated Salem College, 118-75, but feel to Notre Dame (Ohio) (116-79) and Chatham College (107-96) at the Chatham Invitational Saturday. The Blazers are now 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference.
Junior Amy Kaufman won the 500 free (6:01.35) and placed second in the 1000 free (11:48.57) and the 100 back (1:08.08). After clocking in with the team's fastest 100 back time of the season, Kaufman got right back on the blocks and won the 500 free by over six seconds in the very next event.
Junior Katie Hitchens won the 50 free (26.57) in her fastest time of the year, while freshman Erica Hamor was second in the 200 free (2:12.11) and the 100 free (1:00.01). Hamor's 100 free time was a seasonal best.
Sophomore Sarah Haney also turned in a pair of season-best times, taking second in the 100 fly (1:08.98) and the 100 breast (1:15.21).
The Blazer women have back-to-back meets scheduled for this weekend. On Friday, both the men's and women's squads travel to St. Mary's College of Maryland for a double-dual with the Seahawks and Gallaudet University at 5 p.m. Then on Saturday, the Hood women square off with the College of Notre Dame (Md.) in Baltimore at 9 a.m. in an AWCC meet.
