Hood Women Take Sixth at Randolph-Macon Invitational


ASHLAND, Va.--The Hood College women's swim team came in sixth with 98 points at the two-day Randolph-Macon Invitational Friday and Saturday.

Aleece Groom posted a time of 6:21.16 in the 500 free and came in 12th in addition to coming in 11th in the 200 free (2:22.14) and eighth in the 400 IM (5:51.39).

Jen Graham was 18th in the 500 free (7:37.46), 15th in the 200 free (2:51.84) and 16th in the 100 free (1:16.08).

Kristen Kucharski took eighth in both the 100 fly (1:15.33) and the 100 back (1:15.70) and was seventh in the 100 free (1:03.15).

Erica Hamor was eighth in the 200 IM (2:30.57), ninth in the 200 free (2:14.68) and fourth in the 400 IM (5:20.87).

Taryn Scafide placed 11th in both the 200 IM (3:03.21) and the 100 back (1:25.79) and was 13th in the 200 back (3:02.34.

Andrea Haines finished 17th in the 50 free (33:40), 11th in the 100 breast (1:31.88) and eighth in the 200 breast (3:13.33).

Newcomer Catherine Brown placed 18th in the 50 free (34.53) and 19th in the 100 free (1:32.84).

The foursome of Hamor, Kucharski, Groom and Scafide placed eighth in the 200 free relay (1:58.40) and eighth in the 400 free relay (4:21.25). The relay team of Kucharski, Haines, Hamor and Groom took seventh in the 400 medley relay (4:58.84) and ninth in the 200 medley relay (2:16.01). 

Hood is idle until January 9, 2010, when the Blazers travel to Salisbury University for a Capital Athletic Conference dual meet at 2 p.m.
