Rich Roby is in his first year on the women's soccer coaching staff at Hood College in 2016
Roby spent the previous three seasons as the head men's coach at Frederick Community College. The Cougars turned in winning records in each of his last two seasons and improved their conference record each season. Prior to becoming head coach, he served as an assistant at FCC for two years, starting in 2011.
He has trained goalkeepers at Locomotive FC, Bethesda SC, Potomac SC, Damascus SC, FC Frederick, and most recently Alliance SC with over 40 goalkeepers reaching the collegiate ranks. His list of former trainees includes two NCAA All-American’s in Nick Noble (WVU and Damascus SC) who spent time with both the Chicago Fire and LA Galaxy of the MLS, currently playing for USL side Harrisburg City Islanders, and, Gary Kane who was a four year starter and two-time All-American at Johns Hopkins University. After graduation from Hopkins, Kane was offered a contract by MLS side Sporting Kansas City.
Roby played for Gaithersburg HS, Montgomery College and UMBC as well as amateur teams in the Washington Capital Soccer League. His coaching experience began at the club level in 1986 in Montgomery County.
Roby has also served as the goal coach for the Johns Hopkins University men’s program, Director of Goalkeeping for MDODP and the prestigious Elite 300 Player Identification Camp, as well as the head coach of the Damascus HS boys program from 1994 to 2001. He holds a USSF “C” license.
Roby resides in Frederick with his family Stephanie, Kyle, Christian and Jack.
