BOYDS, Md. - Playing for Christos FC, the last remaining amateur team, Hood College women's soccer assistant coach Mamadou Kansaye scored the first goal of the match against DC United in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.
"I just thought, 'This is our one shot,'" Kansaye told Thomas Floyd of goal.com after the match. "Just put it on target and see what happens."
Kansaye converted a free kick from just outside the box in the 22nd minute to give Christos FC, the tournament's Cinderella, the early lead. DC United tied the game before halftime and went on to score three goals in the final 12 minutes to win 4-1 at the Maryland SoccerPlex.
