Women's Soccer Earns Season-Opening Shutout over Cedar Crest, 3-0
ALLENTOWN, Pa.--Three different players tallied goals for the Hood College women's soccer team (1-0) in a 3-0 nonconference victory over the Cedar Crest College Falcons (0-1) Saturday afternoon.
Amanda Hutzell and Stevey Markovich notched first-half tallies in the 15th and 31st minutes, respectively to stake the Blazers to a 2-0 halftime lead. Hood outshot the Falcons 10-2 in the opening stanza.
The Blazers continued to apply pressure on the offensive end in the second half and newcomer Amber Shumaker scored her first collegiate tally in the 59th minute for the final margin.
Goalkeepers Kirsten Cacciola and Caroline Allen combined on the shutout. Cacciola started in the net and made four saves in 77:20, while Allen relieved her in the 78th minute and turned aside the only Cedar Crest attempt she faced.
The Blazers return to the pitch Wednesday at Bridgewater College for a nonconference matchup at 5 p.m.
