Blazers Blank Southern Virginia, 4-0

FREDERICK, Md.--Sophomore forward Nikki Antalffy netted a pair of goals and newcomers Jessica Parrish and Abby Dyjack added single tallies to lead the Hood College women's soccer team (2-8) to a 4-0 nonconference victory over visiting Southern Virginia University (5-3) Friday afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.
Hood wasted little time finding its first score as Antalffy booted one past Knight keeper Andrea McClure in the second minute of the contest. Freshman Alexa Hubicki picked up her team-leading fourth assist on the tally.
The 1-0 margin would stand until halftime despite a 17-3 advantage in total shots in favor of the Blazers.
But in the second half, Dyjack registered her first collegiate goal when she headed one past McClure off a corner kick by classmate Cara Jordan in the 49th minute.
Antalffy, the reigning Capital Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week, notched her second multi-goal game of the season with an unassisted tally at the 52:56 mark to make it 3-0 Hood. Then in the 84th minute, Parrish knocked in a rebound off McClure's hands for her second goal of the season.
In all, Hood outshot Southern Virginia 33-4 and freshman keeper Rachelle Buhrman made just one save on the afternoon in recording her second shutout of the fall. McClure turned in a valiant effort in the net for the Knights, collecting 17 saves.
Hood returns to action Thursday hosting CAC rival Villa Julie College (5-3, 2-1 CAC) at 4 p.m. at Thomas Athletic Field.
