Rendon's Goal Sends Hood to 1-0 Win Over Lycoming

FREDERICK, Md.--Junior midfielder Kristina Rendon scored her first goal of the season in the second half to lift the Hood College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over visiting Lycoming College Saturday at Thomas Athletic Field.

The win was Hood's fifth in a row as the Blazers improve to 9-4-1 overall, while the Lady Warriors drop to 4-9-1.

Lycoming limited the characteristically potent Hood offense to just nine shots in the contest, the Blazers' second-lowest total of the season. But Rendon was able to find the back of the net at the 65:37 mark off a rebound in front of the goal. Freshman forward Nicole Antalffy crossed the ball to freshman defender Colleen Cruice in the box, but Cruice's shot was denied by LC keeper Jessica Bennett. The ball ricocheted to Rendon who was perfectly positioned to capitalize for Hood. Earlier in the half, senior midfielder Tamara Maggard had a chance for the Blazers when she was selected to take a penalty kick. Maggard shot the ball to the left side of the goal but Bennett was there for the stop.

Freshman Nina Duron posted her eighth shutout of the season by turning away eight shots, while Bennett finished with four saves for Lycoming.

The Blazers return to action Monday when they close out the home portion of their schedule against Penn State Altoona at 3 p.m. at Thomas Athletic Field.
