Liz Rakowski Earns AWCC "Player of the Week" Honors
FREDERICK, Md.--Sophomore defender Liz Rakowski of the Hood College women's soccer team has been selected as the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference "Player of the Week" for the week ending Oct. 15. Rakowski is the second Hood women's soccer player to earn this distinction this season and the first since freshman Whitney Boyer was chosen on Sept. 26.
Hood went 2-0 last week, defeating Shenandoah University, 1-0, on Wednesday and Mary Baldwin College, 4-1, on Friday. The Blazers have won six of their last seven games and are 7-4-1 overall and in second place in the league with a 5-1-0 mark.
Rakowski scored a pair of goals against MBC to help the Blazers to the league victory. The native of Baltimore, Md., got Hood on the board with just under four minutes remaining before halftime when she found the net off a pass from senior Tamara Maggard. Then in the second half, just minutes after the Fighting Squirrels tied the game at 1-1, Rakowski connected on her second goal, this time an unassisted score, which proved to be the game-winner. Rakowski is now second on the team in goals with four and third in scoring with eight points.
The Blazers return to action Thursday hosting Gallaudet University at 3 p.m. at Thomas Athletic Field.
