Lawrence Scores Four Goals in 16-9 CAC Setback to Wesley

DOVER, Del.--Junior Caitlin Lawrence scored four goals and assisted on a fifth for the Hood College women's lacrosse team (2-14, 0-7 CAC) but it was not enough as the Wesley College Wolverines (7-8, 1-6 CAC) defeated the Blazers, 16-9, Saturday afternoon.

Lawrence scored two quick goals in the first three minutes of the game to give the Blazers the early advantage. But Wesley's Alyssa Prudente countered with two scores of her own to knot the game at 2-2 7:40 in. Kati Vu scored the first of her two goals on the afternoon to regain the lead for the Blazers at the 18:58 mark. Just 2:45 later, Wesley notched four unanswered goals to go up 7-3 with 6:36 left in the period. Lawrence then setup Julia Banks for her 20th goal of the spring to make it 7-4, and Hood trailed 9-4 at intermission.

Just as she did to start the game, Lawrence wasted no time getting the Blazers on the board in the second half, scoring her third goal of the game in the first minute off a pass from Vu. The Blazers were unable to close the gap to fewer than four goals however and the Wolverines went on to secure their first CAC win of the spring.

Banks and Vu both finished with two goals while Brigid Ayer added a goal and an assist in the second half. Helene Butler tallied 15 saves on the day while Ayer and Maria Boss gathered four ground balls for the Blazers. Jennifer Fischer forced three takeaways on defense while Moss and Amy Eyler each caused two Wolverine turnovers.

Wesley's Nina Cornog contributed seven points in the win on five goals and two assists, while Prudente registered four goals and two helpers.

Wesley outshot Hood, 51-29, but Hood won the draw battle, winning 17 of the game's 27 draws. Lawrence won nine of them on her own for Hood.

The Blazers' season finale is slated for Wednesday at Stevenson University. The Blazers and Mustangs will face off at 4 p.m. in Hood's final CAC game.
