Blackwell, Balukoff Score Against Mary Washington

FREDERICK, Md.--Sophomore Sarah Balukoff and freshman Kelsey Blackwell scored unassisted goals for the Hood College women's lacrosse team (0-8, 0-5 CAC) in a 20-2 loss to No. 13 University of Mary Washington (5-3, 3-0 CAC) Thursday in a Capital Athletic Conference game at Thomas Athletic Field.
Both Blazer goals came in the second half as Balukoff netted her sixth tally of the season while Blackwell connected on her fourth.
Mary Washington's Caitlin Erickson set a CAC record with 10 assists, breaking the previous record of eight shared by St. Mary's Carol Schmoller (2003) and Salisbury's Amanda Moculski (1999). Sarah Kersey registered five goals while Brittany Butler tallied four. Eight other Eagles contributed to the scoring.
Lauren Lieb turned away nine shots on the day for the Blazers while Meredith Deitrick and Helena Polites combined to make nine saves as well for UMW.
The Blazers return to action Wednesday at Shenandoah University at 4:30 p.m.
