Women's basketball falls at Roanoke

SALEM, Va. - The Hood College women's basketball team dropped a 70-51 final at Roanoke on the first day of the Susan Dunagan Holiday Classic.

Inside the Box Score

  • Mia Savoy and Zara Whitfield were the only Blazers in double figures with 10 points apiece. 
  • Ebony Pitt finished with nine points, eight rebounds and five assists. 

How it Happened

  • Hood trailed for much of the first quarter and needed a 3-point play by Whitfield to pull within 19-14 heading into the second period.
  • Whitfield scored to cut the deficit to just three on the first possession of the quarter but the Maroons finished with an 18-6 run and led 37-22 at halftime. 
  • Hood pulled within 39-28 after a 6-0 run in the third quarter before Roanoke's lead ballooned to 20 with a 14-5 run that followed. 
  • The two sides played evenly in the fourth quarter with the Maroons' lead never going lower than 16 points or higher than 21. 


  • Whitney Hopson led all players with 12 points. She added eight rebounds, five assists and four steals. 
  • Hood held Roanoke to just 5 of 17 (29 percent) from 3-point range but the Blazers went only 4 of 20 themselves (20 percent). 
  • The Maroons' bench held a 34-14 scoring edge.
