Mehl Completes 2012-13 Women's Basketball Recruiting Class

FREDERICK, Md.--Hood College women's basketball head coach Jack Mehl has announced his final three recruits for the class of 2016.

Guards Ashley Fourcade from Richard Montgomery High School, Maggie Payne from South Carroll High School and Verkia Smith from North Point High School will all suit up for the Blazers this fall.

Fourcade (pictured top left) was a three-sport athlete who also lettered in volleyball and softball. She was selected as the most valuable player on the basketball and softball teams as a senior and most versatile player on the volleyball court three years in a row. Fourcade and the Rockets captured the Magruder Holiday Tournament championship in 2011. Richard Montgomery also recognized Fourcade as its Female Athlete of the Year this past spring.

Payne (pictured bottom left), who served as team captain her senior year, led the Cavaliers to the Carroll County championship in 2010 and 2011. She set a single-season school record for three-pointers with 35 her junior year and went to nationals in foul shooting in 2008. Payne was also a member of the national honor society, the French club and the multicultural club.

Smith (pictured bottom right), who lettered in basketball, cross country and track for the Eagles, led North Point to the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference (SMAC) championship in 2010 and 2012 and a trip to regionals in 2012. A basketball team captain her senior year, Smith garnered all-conference and all-met recognition in cross country and track and field and set a school record in the mile run (5:26). She received the Minds in Motion award all four years for excellence in academics and was a member of the key club and the D.A.R.E. team.

Mehl's other recruits include: guard Alexis Andrukat (Smithsburg), forward Chloe Scott (Frederick), forward Rachel Kessler (Middletown), guard Arianna Delerme (Susquehanna Township), forward Olivia Hosch (Cushing Academy), guard Alexis Briscoe (Long Reach), forward Shakara Head (Joppatowne) and forward Sarah Marcello (Boiling Springs).
