FREDERICK, Md.--Hood College women's basketball head coach Jack Mehl has added three more recruits to his 2012-13 roster.
Alexis Briscoe (pictured top left), a guard from Long Reach High School; Shakara Head (pictured bottom left), a forward from Joppatowne High School; and Sarah Marcello (pictured bottom right), a forward from Boiling Springs High School, will all join the Blazers this fall.
Briscoe was a four-year varsity letterwinner for the Lightning who also participated in field hockey and softball. As a senior, she led the basketball team in scoring, blocks, rebounds and free throw percentage and was a second team all-Howard County pick. She captained the team as a junior and earned honorable mention all-county recognition as well as team MVP honors. Briscoe captured the Coaches Award for the most improved player as a sophomore. A merit scholar, she graduated in the top five percent of her class and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Head, who transferred to Joppatowne from Towson Catholic High School, led the Mariners to the Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association (MPSSAA) state championship as a sophomore and was the squad's top shot blocker and rebounder. As a junior and sophomore, Head once again made her presence known as the Mariners' top scorer, rebounder and shot blocker. She earned three straight all-Harford County first team accolades and was heralded as Joppatowne's Outstanding Female Athlete her senior year. A two-time second-team all-metro selection, Head finished her scholastic career with more than 1,000 points and 800 rebounds. She also played volleyball at Joppatowne and was named all-county following her senior season.
Marcello, who attended Harrisburg Academy as a freshman and sophomore before transferring to Boiling Springs, competed in basketball, soccer, field hockey and track and field during her scholastic career. As a freshman at Harrisburg Academy, Marcello was part of the squad's first district win in school history and garnered the team's rookie of the year award as well as the school's Female Athletic Achievement Award, given to the best female athlete in the freshman class. A captain for the Boiling Springs Bubblers her senior year, Marcello led the team in foul shooting in 2011-12 and rebounding in 2010-11.
Mehl's other recruits for the 2012-13 season include Arianna Delerme, a guard from Susquehanna Township High School in Harrisburg, Pa., and Olivia Hosch, a forward who graduated from Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Mass.
