FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's basketball team (4-13, 1-9 CAC) suffered a 54-38 defeat at the hands of the Salisbury University Sea Gulls (7-10, 4-6 CAC) Wednesday evening in Capital Athletic Conference action at the Odom Fitness Center at Fort Detrick.
Hood took its lone lead of the contest at the 13:14 mark of the first half on a Jen Willison jumper, but from there would endure a scoring drought from the floor of nearly 11 minutes. However, the Blazers was able to connect on 10-of-16 from the foul line and managed to keep the deficit at just seven points. A bucket by Jessica Talley with 2:20 to go in the first period snapped the string of six straight misses and the Blazers trailed by only seven (26-19) heading into the break.
Salisbury assumed a double-figure lead it would not surrender just 4:31 into the second stanza. Hood would actually close to within nine on a basket by Dyanna Prater midway through the half, but the Gulls countered right away by scoring the next five consecutive points and Hood got no closer than 12 the rest of the way.
Willison connected on 5-of-13 from the field for a team-high 15 points and a team-best eight caroms while Prater finished with 10 points, three steals, three rebounds and two assists. Jessica Parrish came off the bench to net five points, grab three boards, pick off three steals and dish a pair of assists.
Nicole Sisco paced the Sea Gulls with a double-double of 11 points and 15 rebounds while Janay Johnson came off the bench to lead all scorers with 16 points.
Hood next travels to York College (Pa.) Saturday for a CAC contest at 4 p.m.
