WASHINGTON, D.C.--The Hood College women's basketball team (3-8, 1-2 CAC) registered its first Capital Athletic Conference victory of the season Wednesday evening, knocking off the Gallaudet University Bison (4-6, 0-3 CAC), 68-59, in Washington, D.C.
Hood fell behind early and found itself in a 28-12 hole before some sizzling perimeter shooting helped shave a 16-point deficit to just three heading into the lockerroom. Allyson Lethbridge and Sara Wastler buried five straight three-point baskets over the final 3:20 to draw the Blazers to within three, 30-27, at halftime.
The second half featured five ties and eight lead changes and it wasn't until the final 6:55 of regulation before the Blazers took the lead for good on Lethbridge's fourth triple of the game. Hood limited Gallaudet to just two field goals in the final 8:24 and countered with five straight layups down the stretch to clinch the victory.
Gallaudet came into the game as the conference's top three-point shooting team, but attempted just four shots from beyond the arc all night. Hood meanwhile drained eight treys and forced 25 Bison turnovers.
Lethbridge led all scorers with 22 points, seven rebounds and four steals while Jen Willison notched a double-double of 15 points and 10 boards. Jessica Parrish contributed 15 points while Sara Wastler finished with nine points, all on threes, and dished out five assists.
