FREDERICK, Md.--Sophomore Jen Willison scored a game-high 21 points to lead four players in double figures as the Hood College women's basketball team (4-15, 2-9 CAC) ended a four-game losing skid with a 79-51 win over Galladuet University (3-15, 0-11 CAC) Saturday.
The first half featured six ties and seven lead changes before the Blazers took the lead for good on a three-pointer by Whitney Boyer. That triple ignited an 8-0 run for the hosts, who took their largest lead of the half (30-23) with 4:32 to play in the period. Hood led 34-31 at halftime.
The Blazers quickly stretched that lead to double figures in the first 2:52 and the Bison drew no closer that seven the rest of the way. Hood completed the season sweep over the Bison and improved to 3-1 all-time against Gallaudet.
Hood shot 46.6 percent from the field and canned eight three-point attempts on the night. The Blazers also hauled in 23 offensive rebounds.
Willison hit 10-of-19 from the floor to go along with nine rebounds. Sara Wastler netted 15 points and nine rebounds and drilled three treys while Whitney Schultheis and Jessica Parrish registered 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Nukeitra Hayes (16 points, 10 boards) and Brittainy Payne (15 points, 11 boards) each notched double-doubles in the losing cause.
Hood continues its four-game homestand Wednesday hosting St. Mary's College (Md.) at 6 p.m.
