Lebanon Valley Stifles Hood

FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College suffered a sweep at the hands of No. 12 Lebanon Valley in Commonwealth Conference action this afternoon, 14-0 and 9-0.

With the pair of wins, the Dutchmen improve to 21-2 and stay perfect in conference play with a 10-0 record. The Blazers dropped to to 13-13, with a 1-9 mark in the conference. 

Lebanon Valley 14, Hood 0 (5 innings)

Sam Derr pitched a complete game two-hitter with four strikeouts, and Lebanon Valley scored four runs in the first inning to run away with game one. 

Jordyn Miller had the big hit in the frame, a two-run double with the bases loaded to open up the scoring. The Dutchmen added one in the third, three in the fourth, and six in the fifth.

Sammy Bost led the way with three hits and three runs scored. Four other players had two hits a piece. Miller had four RBIs and Derr helped her own cause with three RBIs. 

Keerstie Robinson (Windsor, Pa. / Northeastern) gave up 15 hits in the effort. Jess Sedgwick (Fairfield, Conn. / Cushing Academy) and Melissa Canulli (Hummelstown, Pa. / Central Dauphin East) were the only Blazer batters to break through against Derr. 

Lebanon Valley 9, Hood 0 (6 innings)

Carly Farr (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) had a team-high two hits, but the offense could not going and Lebanon Valley completed the sweep. 

Haley Neff followed up Derr's effort with a complete game three-hitter along with six strikeouts. The guests jumped out to another early lead, scoring three times in the first. 

Tessa Deardorff and Sammy Bost each had three hits, Deardorff scored once and had one RBI, and Bost scored twice. Allie Hartmann and Katie Deardorff each had two hits as well.

Jackie Wenzel (Wallingford, Pa. / Strath Haven) had the other Hood hit, and Jennifer Rutherford (Phoenixville, Pa. / Phoenixville Area) gave up four earned runs and struck out two batters in the loss. 

The Blazers travel to Widener on April 17.
