Kelly Gafner Named Second Team All-CAC
FREDERICK, Md.--Senior first baseman Kelly Gafner of the Hood College softball team was voted to the all-Capital Athletic Conference second team by the league's head coaches Monday.
Gafner, from right here in Frederick, Md., attended Clarksburg High School and transferred to Hood from Shepherd University her sophomore year. She is just the fourth all-conference selection for the Hood softball program and the Blazers' first since the 2009-10 season.
Gafner started 38 of the team's 39 games this season and posted a .383 batting average, which was best on the team. She was among the league leaders in hits with 46 and doubles with eight. Gafner also scored 18 runs on the year and knocked in 10. She registered 14 multi-hit games and was one of the toughest on the team to struck out, fanning just eight times in 120 at-bats. Gafner also played very well at first base as she committed just five errors in 294 chances (.983 average).
Gafner leaves Hood as the all-time leader in triples and boasts a career .324 batting average. She is also fifth all-time in base hits and tied for fifth all-time in doubles.
