Salisbury Sweeps Hood on Senior Day, 8-0 & 8-2

FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College softball team (15-11, 5-7 CAC) lost both games of a Capital Athletic Conference twinbill to the Salisbury University Sea Gulls (25-7, 11-1 CAC) Sunday on Senior Day.
Stacy Davis and Kelsey Mills combined on a four-hit shutout in an 8-0 Sea Gull win in the opener while Kelly Waskewicz belted three homers and drove in seven runs in an 8-2 victory in the nightcap.
Jen Lacy was 2-for-2 in the first game while Katherine Law and Sara Wastler also singles in the losing effort. Davis helped her own cause with a two-run single in the first and a three-run shot in the top of the fourth.
Waskewicz led off game two with a solo homerun over the leftfield fence and Stacey Malarkey singled in Lauren Brenneman to stake the vistors to an early 2-0 lead. But in the bottom half, Gardner launched her team-leading sixth homer of the season, a two-run blast, to knot the score at 2-2.
In the top of the second, Waskewicz once again went deep, this time with a runner on to regain the lead for the Sea Gulls. After a scoreless third inning, Waskewicz stepped to the plate once again, this time with the bases loaded. She laced a single to right center which brought around Meghan O'Gara and pinch-runner Alex Winstead, but Kurisha Hoffman was cut down at third following a nice relay from Ashley Lenhart in centerfield.
Salisbury tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth on Waskewicz's second two-run dinger of the contest.
Wastler was 2-for-3 with a run scored in the game and has now hit safely in 14 of her last 15 ballgames to raise her average to .415.
The Blazers will entertain the Wesley College Wolverines Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament. Hood and Wesley split the regular season series as the Blazers earned a 2-1 win in the first game while the Wolverines earned the split with a 5-2 victory in the nightcap.
