Softball Sweeps Penn State-Abington

FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College softball team (9-5) extended its winning streak to seven with a pair of 10-2 victories over the visiting Penn State University-Abington Nittany Lions Thursday at the Hood College softball field.
The Blazers rapped out 14 hits in the opener and took advantage of five Nittany Lion miscues in the field to earn a five-inning 10-2 victory. In the nightcap, the Blazers plated six runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back, winning the second game by an identical 10-2 margin in five innings.
In the opener, Katherine Law and Jen Willison tallied three hits apiece and each drove in two runs. Willison belted her first homerun of the spring, a two-run shot, to ignite a four-run fourth inning.
Jamie Gardner earned her eighth victory of the season by tossing four innings and allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
In the nightcap, Gardner jacked a three-run bomb, her team-leading third of the spring, while Kate Hassell also went deep for the first time this season as the Blazers completed their third straight sweep. Sara Wastler, Willison and Ashley Lenhart all collected a pair of hits in the triumph.
Erica Hamor picked up her first pitching victory in the blue and grey after tossing three innings and allowing two unearned runs with four strikeouts and one walk.
The Blazers turn right around tomorrow to travel to Penn State University-Harrisburg for a 2 p.m. nonconference doubleheader.
