Gardner Earns Third AWCC Weekly Honor
FREDERICK, Md.--Sophomore pitcher Jamie Gardner of the Hood
College softball team was selected as the Atlantic Women's Colleges
Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season, as
announced by league officials.
Gardner was also received this honor March 27 and April 17.
The Eldersburg, Md., native was virtually untouchable last weekend
at the AWCC tournament at Wilson College. She pitched all 21
innings of Hood's three games, allowing just one run while striking
out 32 batters. Gardner boasted an ERA of 0.33 to help the Blazers
clinch the tournament championship and an automatic berth to the
NCAA tournament.
In 27 appearances on the season, Gardner is 13-9 with a 2.93 ERA
and has racked up 117 strikeouts over 136.1 innings.
The Blazers are set to head to New Concord, Ohio, Thursday to take
on the ninth-ranked team in the country, the Muskingum College
Muskies, at 10 a.m. in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.
Hood will then square off against either Bridgewater College or
Anderson University Friday.
