Gardner Earns Third AWCC Weekly Honor

FREDERICK, Md.--Sophomore pitcher Jamie Gardner of the Hood College softball team was selected as the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season, as announced by league officials.

Gardner was also received this honor March 27 and April 17.

The Eldersburg, Md., native was virtually untouchable last weekend at the AWCC tournament at Wilson College. She pitched all 21 innings of Hood's three games, allowing just one run while striking out 32 batters. Gardner boasted an ERA of 0.33 to help the Blazers clinch the tournament championship and an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament.

In 27 appearances on the season, Gardner is 13-9 with a 2.93 ERA and has racked up 117 strikeouts over 136.1 innings.

The Blazers are set to head to New Concord, Ohio, Thursday to take on the ninth-ranked team in the country, the Muskingum College Muskies, at 10 a.m. in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. Hood will then square off against either Bridgewater College or Anderson University Friday.
