Jamie Gardner Earns Second Player of the Week Award
FREDERICK, Md.--Sophomore pitcher Jamie Gardner of the Hood
College softball team has been selected as the Atlantic Women's
Colleges Conference Player of the Week for the week ending April
15. This marks the second time that Gardner has been chosen for the
weekly conference honor this spring.
In a doubleheader sweep over AWCC foe Chatham College, Gardner
tossed a four-hit complete game shutout in the opener as the
Blazers came away with an 8-0 victory. She struck out seven Cougars
over six innings to pick up her eighth win of the season.
Then in the nightcap, the native of Eldersburg, Md., pitched the
first three innings and surrendered three runs on six hits. But the
Blazers provided plenty of offensive firepower to back her up,
cruising to a 19-3 win.
In AWCC contests alone, Gardner is a sparkling 5-1 with a skimpy
1.05 earned run average. She has also collected 30 strikeouts and
allowed just five earned runs in 33 innings against league
foes.
The Blazers (9-11, 5-1 AWCC) return to action Tuesday afternoon
hosting the University of Mary Washington at 4 p.m.
