FREDERICK, Md.--Hood College will host the 2009 Capital Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship Saturday at Heritage Farm Park in Walkersville, Md.

All nine CAC member institutions will participate in the championship, as the conference celebrates its 20th anniversary. Hood is proud to host its second CAC championship final and first involving all nine colleges and universities in the league.

Salisbury University has claimed the last four consecutive men's titles while the Sea Gulls have also secured four of the past five women's crowns.

The women's championship event will commence at 11 a.m. followed by the men's race at noon. All-conference honors are bestowed upon the top 15 finishers in each race, in addition to Athlete of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and Coach of the Year accolades in each gender.

Hood seniors Blair Ames, William Andrews, Emily Brownlee, Brendan Greenlees and Jessica Stanley will take their final laps around Heritage Farm Park Saturday. Andrews, Stanley and freshman Brett Shelley should vie for all-conference honors for the Blazers.

"It’s going to be tough, but if we are going to have a successful outing, we will need strong performances up front," said head coach Brent Ayer.

"Mary Washington and Salisbury are the dominant teams in the conference and there is very little to slow them down," continued Ayer. "York is much improved and enjoying a successful fall and St. Mary’s has beaten us four straight times by narrow margins.

"We are excited to be the hosts," Ayer continued. "Our goals are to put on a good show and to finish in the top four."
