Andrews Takes Top Spot Versus Southern Virginia
FREDERICK, Md.--Senior William Andrews of the Hood College men's cross country team paced the field of 18 runners Saturday in a 5K dual meet between the Blazers and Southern Virginia University.
Andrews completed the course around the perimeter of Hood's campus in 17:33.74 to claim top honors. Freshman Brett Shelley finished as the runner-up in the race with a clocking of 17:51.68.
The senior tandem of Blair Ames and Brendan Greenlees took fifth (18:21.82) and sixth (18:42.77), respectively. Greenlees completed his 32nd race in a Hood uniform today. No other Blazer men's cross country runner has ever run more. He breaks Steven Delaney's previous record of 31. Sophomore Dave Gudeman crossed the tape eighth in 18:54.73 to round out the Blazer scorers.
Other finishers for Hood included David McDuffie who came in 15th in 21:52.51 and Jordan McNeill who placed 16th in 22:16.56.
The Blazers defeated SVU, 22-33, in the team competition.
Hood has two weeks off to prepare for the Capital Athletic Conference championships which it will host at Heritage Farm Park in Walkersville on Nov. 7 at 11 a.m.
