Blazer Men Close Out Season at York

YORK, Pa.--The Hood College track & field program completed
its third season as an NCAA program Saturday at the York Charity
Open. The non-scoring meet featured teams from Goucher, York and
Hood, as well as a number of former Capital Athletic Conference
athletes competing unattached.
Freshman all-CAC pole vaulter Chris DiGangi again won his
specialty clearing 14'. Justin Everett picked up a win in the long
jump (20' 6.25") with a mark just outside his school record. He
came back later to finish second in the triple jump.
Senior thrower Matt Haynes picked up second in the hammer, third
in the discus, third in the javelin and competed in the 110 meter
hurdles. "We are going to miss Matt," said head coach Brent Ayer.
"He has been a stalwart in the throws, narrowly missing
all-conference the last two years. Under the guidelines for next
year, he would earned the distinction both years. He was
enthusiastic about learning the events and sharing that knowledge
with his teammates."
Senior Nick Manning participated in his final college meet. "Nick
has been a reliable contributor in some of the toughest events on
the track, especially the steeplechase. We will miss his
contributions to both the track and the cross country programs,"
said Ayer.
Brendan Greenlees placed second in the 5000 meter run. Three
freshmen closed out their season with personal bests. Conor Prachar
finished third in the long jump and lowered his personal best at
200 meters. David Andren concluded his first college season with
personal bests in the hammer and the discus. Mike Richter set a
personal record at 400 meters.
In all, the Blazer men set 10 new school records this season, and
broke and re-broke many of those. "We are making solid progress in
several areas," observed Ayer. "We are contesting events, well,
where we never had a presence before and we are covering the full
range of events more completely. As we add depth, we should only
get better."
