Men's Track & Field Takes Third at Dragon Invitational
COLUMBIA, Md.--Junior captain William Andrews won the
steeplechase and set a new meet record in leading the Blazers to a
third place finish among 10 teams at Saturday's Dragon Invitational
held in Columbia, Md., and hosted by Howard Community College.
Complimenting Andrews' efforts were all-CAC performer Ola Komolafe
who finished second in the 400 meters, fifth in the 200 meters and
ran legs on two scoring relay teams. Junior Blair Ames nearly ran
down the entire field from behind in the 1500 meters nabbing
second, only 0.68 seconds off the win. Justin Everett finished
second in the long jump, just off his school record. Matt Haynes
was passed on the last throw to finish second in the hammer. He
also finished fourth in the javelin and sixth in the discus.
Chris DiGangi vaulted 13' 0" for third and high jumped 5' 9 3/4"
to add to his school record and finish fifth.
Other scorers for the Hood men were Brendan Greenless (seventh in
the 5000 meters), David McDuffie (eighth in the 400-meter hurdles),
Nick Manning (fourth in the steeplechase), Conor Prachar (sixth in
the long jump, seventh in the triple jump), David Andren (seventh
in the discus) and Jeff Lipinski (seventh in the javelin).
"We competed very hard today. This was a valiant effort to try to
over-take some established programs twice our size," said head
coach Brent Ayer. "In the end, we fell a little short of capturing
the overall title, but we fought very hard, and beat some teams we
have never beaten. We are in our third season of varsity
competition and have come a long way from our days of stuffing six
kids in a van and hoping some meet would take us. We are beginning
to compete."
Hood returns to action next weekend at the Battleground Relays hosted by the University of Mary Washington.
