Track & Feld Seniors Honored at Blazer 5K
FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College track and field team hosted its
first and only home meet of the spring Sunday, the Blazer 5K.
Nearly 100 runners competed in the event, which featured Hood
student-athletes, staff members and alumnae.
Danielle Sgro was the winner of the women's race, besting the field
in 20:50.43, while Jesse Saldana won the men's race in a clocking
of 17:17.46.

In addition, head coach Brent Ayer honored his four graduating
seniors following the race.
Julia Blickenstaff, Middle Distance, Captain
Summit Point, W.Va./Jefferson
Founding member of Hood College's NCAA cross country program. A
scorer for Hood at all four NCAA Mid-Atlantic Cross Country
Championships. Coaches Award recipient for the 2006 cross country
season. First season of college track. School record holder, 3000
meter steeplechase.
Mark MacKenzie, Throws
Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro
Three year participant in cross country & track. School record
holder in the discus. Ran fifth man on the first Hood College cross
country team to finish at the Regional Championships. Previous
record holder in the hammer throw. Finished in the top five at the
2005 Capital Athletic Conference meet in the discus.
Rachel Pectol, Middle Distance, Captain
Annandale, Va./Annandale
Founding member of Hood College's NCAA cross country program.
Founding member of the Hood College track club, as well as the
resulting varsity program. Top five runner in cross country all
four seasons. School record holder, 800 meter run. Holds
17th-fastest time recorded in Hood College cross country history.
Winner of the Unsung Hero award for the 2006 cross country season.
Previous winner of the Coaches Award.
Anika Watley, Sprints
U.S. Virgin Islands/Northwestern
First season of college track. School record holder in the long
jump, as well as legs on the record-holding 4x100 and 4x400 meter
relay teams.
