ANNVILLE, Pa.--Freshman Danielle Sgro won the 5,000-meter run and also finished second in the mile to pace the Hood College track club at the Lebanon Valley College Invitational Saturday.

The meet featured teams from Delaware Valley College, Steven's Technical College, King's College, host Lebanon Valley College and Hood.

Sgro charged into the lead with a little over a mile to go and ran 20:58.2 to secure the win under cold, blustery conditions. The stadium record is held by former Hood athlete Kelly Buriak, who ran 20:01 in winning the 2004 event.

Other second place finishes were recorded by Ryan Jenkins (400), Tomi Komoaife (long jump), Katie Thomas (400-meter hurdles) and the Hood 4x100-meter relay consisting of Jenkins, Komoaife, Brandon Garton and Faizal Johnson.

"I was impressed with the effort put forward today by three freshmen--Danielle, Katie and Brandon," head coach Brent Ayer said. "Danielle was stuck in 'no man's land' most of the way in the 5,000 and kept plugging. Katie ran her first 400-meter hurdle race and just missed a time that would have earned points in last year's Capital Athletic Conference meet. And, Brandon placed fourth in his first college race while running out of the slow heat in the 200. He was a pleasant surprise and looked very strong.

"All in all, it was a pretty good day," Ayer said. "We haven't gotten much of a break from the weather and we are training through meets at this point. I look for the marks to improve in about two weeks."
