FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood men's and women's tennis teams fell to NCAA Division II University of District of Columbia Thursday afternoon. The Blazer women were edged 5-4 while the men dropped an 8-1 decision.

In women's action, Hood (4-5) split the six singles matches, but the Firebirds won two of the three doubles contests. Larisa Buriak, Laura Wanner and Caitlin Erickson posted singles victories for the Blazers, while Stephanie Garrett and Stephanie Cowen added an 8-0 shutout at No. 2 doubles.

Wanner and Carla Means dropped a tough 9-8 (7-5 tiebreaker) match at No. 3 doubles.

On the men's side, Nick Gunther picked up Hood's lone point with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Donnell Ellis at the No. 6 singles flight. Tyler Dixon and Moga Nkate suffered a 9-8 (14-12 tiebreaker) nailbiter at No. 2 doubles.

The Blazer men finish their season at 3-6. The three victories are the most in the program's brief three-year history.
